Springtails are small pests that are found in areas of high moisture. They do no damage and are of no threat to humans though they can be a nuisance.

Springtail Habitat

Springtails are attracted to areas of high moisture and outside they are found in mulch, damp firewood, potted plants, railroad ties, and other landscaping. When indoors, Springtails are found near plumbing leaks, in bathrooms, basements, and kitchens and other areas where there is high moisture and condensation. They will only come inside if the outdoors is too dry for them to survive.

Behavior and Damage

Springtails do not have wings and cannot fly, but they can jump several inches using a fork-shaped appendage. Springtails are nearly invisible and do not bite or do any perceivable damage to person or property. They are no more than a nuisance.
